The Department of Medicine maintains excellence in both basic science and clinical research areas in cardiology, dermatology, gastroenterology, geriatrics & gerontology, hematology/oncology, infectious disease, nephrology, pulmonary, rheumatology, and integrative medicine.

The Department of Medicine offers a comprehensive range of consultative and medical services for the adult population. It has nationally prominent programs in cardiology, hematology/oncology, rheumatology/immunology, and pulmonary diseases.
